The Leader-Post has learned that Iron Maiden will bring its Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 08 to the Brandt Centre on June 8. Tickets are expected to go on sale March 28. Ticket prices have yet to be announced but tickets for Iron Maiden's show Sunday at Toronto's Air Canada Centre ranged from $39.50 to $69.50.
The current tour is based on Iron Maiden's >Live After Death concert DVD, which was shot over four nights at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, in 1985. The DVD has sold over six million copies worldwide and is considered the epitome of concert videos and live albums.
The Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 08, which opened on Feb. 1 in Mumbai, India, is based on the classic 1980s period in the choice of songs and the stage setup. It focuses on the production of the 1985 Powerslave Tour.
"We are having a great time on this tour and really can't believe the excitement it is creating around the world and the huge number of people who are turning out to see us," said frontman Bruce Dickinson in a release on the Iron Maiden Web site. "It makes for a really very exciting time for all of us, fans and band alike."
In the first leg of its tour, Iron Maiden played to more than 400,000 fans in 21 cities in 10 countries, flying over 45 days.
The band is travelling on a commissioned Astraeus Boeing 757 which is being piloted at times by frontman Bruce Dickinson, who is also a Astraeus Airlines captain. The plane is necessary to transport 50 crew members and 12 tons of equipment and stage setting.
In addition to Dickinson, the current roster of the band includes bassist Steve Harris, guitarist Dave Murray, drummer Nicko McBrain, guitarists Adrian Smith and guitarist Janick Gers.
Iron Maiden, which was formed in 1975 by Harris, has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.
The band was inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame in 2005 and was named the third-best metal band of all-time on VH1Classic's Top 20 Metal Bands.
Iron Maiden was ranked No. 4 by MTV in its listing of the 10 greatest heavy metal bands of all-time.
