The guy who got in touch with us about Cliveaid this year, was Adrian Lodge of Pagan Promotions. With open arms, he and his family took us in for the weekend, and sorted everything for us. Adrian is a part of the Cliveaid team, and the guy who made sure everyone had a fantastic time before, during and after the event - with good help from his lovely family. On our way back to the airport, we finally got the chance to talk to Adrian about why and how he got into Cliveaid.

MaidenNorway: Tell us about CliveAid, how did you get in to it? Why do you do it?

"We just made it up as we went along, to be honest"

- Adrian Lodge

Adrian Lodge: Basically, big Iron Maiden fan from the early years, my son Jonathan, drummer with Stinger. Again, massive, massive Maiden fan. Particularly obviously with him being a drummer, fan of Clive Burr and Nicko McBrain. We’d always thought about putting a show on, just to send a check to the trust, and it, basically, we planned on doing something maybe put a couple of bands on in Doncaster and send a check. We then had a pure chance meeting on a plane, when we fly out to Florida last December. Clive was actually on the plane, he was going out to treatment.

MaidenNorway: Really?

Adrian Lodge: So we got to talk to Clive and Mimi, and they gave us the number of Sam Hill, who’s done the shows previously. After a while we managed getting contact with each other. I explained what I wanted to do, this was probably February/March time? And it really went from there. I decided we were maybe gonna do four or five bands if we could find the right venue, and Sam sort of said “We’ll take over and..” well, not take over, but “We’ll do a bit better than that, we’ll get some better known bands.” And just one thing led to another, it was just really surreal to be honest. And now this UK tour, I don’t know if Sam has mentioned that to you? Obviously Norway and L.A, possibly this year. We got a show in Dublin the 19th of December. It really is… As far as I’m concerned, I love Rock music, and it’s not what I do for a living. I don’t know anything about it, so we just made it up as we went along, to be honest. But people have been so supportive and massive support we had from different bands, musicians and bands all over the world has been quite phenomenal. So it’s, I don’t know, very heart-warming. Some of the messages from people that suffers of MS or cancer or various different illness, ehh, just, you know, very very moving. But to me, Clive, again, when he came over to the show on Friday night was, very emotional. Ehm, I tend not to be a… I tend not to show my emotions, but tears rolling down my face when he turned up. He is such a great guy and…

"I’ve been talking to people, that when I was a kid, they were my heroes, and they still are. And they talk to me as if I’m their friend!"

- Adrian Lodge

MaidenNorway: Where do you see CliveAid in like five years from now?

Adrian Lodge
Adrian - Always smiling!
Adrian Lodge: In five years from now… I really, really don’t know, I don’t think I will survive that long, if I carry on like this. Hopefully we’ll have various different musicians playing and we will be doing shows, centres around the world, merchandise fingers crossed, will get as.. ehh, some t-shirts obviously, cds, just that normal sort of merchandise that your, that bands will have. Or I’m saying average bands, really rocking bands. Things have happened so quickly over the last two or three months, I’ve been talking to people, that when I was a kid, they were my heroes, and they still are. And they talk to me as if I’m their friend, and it’s, it’s, very very difficult to take in, I’m still thinking it’s a dream at the moment. Somebody’s gonna wake me up and bite my bollocks of me. [laughing] Hopefully we’re going to get people who know what they’re doing to help out with the shows and various different locations.

We at MaidenNorway.com would like to express our enormous respect and gratitude to Adi, his wife Cathrine and his two sons, Jonno and Robert, for making us feel part of their family for the few days that we were in Doncaster. This trip turned out to be one of the best experiences of our lives, thanks to you guys! We can't wait till we meet again.

Cheers!!
Frode & Pål
